Our Environmental, Social and Governance policy is very important to us. We have been working hard on many environmentally-friendly projects over the last couple of years.
Firstly we have reviewed how we manage the waste generated on our site.
We have recently changed, our waste collection supplier. This has meant the introduction of new recycling bins across ours offices and manufacturing sites. Come January, when the installation of bailing machines is complete we will be able recycle 80% of the waste generated on site.
Our second major product has been to look at our packaging.
Traditionally, our bulbs were supplied in blister-card packaging made from PVC, but early this year we introduced PET blister-cards.
Unlike PVC, PET (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) has a lower carbon footprint and is 100% recyclable.
We haven't stopped there - after successful trials we are now using PET with 50% recycled content in most of our blister bulb packs.
Our Performance Bulb range has also undergone huge changes - many customers didn’t like our heat-sealed PVC pack design, as it was difficult to remove the bulbs.
The new pack is now completely plastic-free and so can be completely recycled and uses water-based printing inks that are kinder to the environment.
Other packing is also going plastic free. We have replaced plastic nestling trays in our inspections lamp packs with recycled card trays.
